Music in Art

This giant guitar stretching for over two-thirds of a mile is a living tribute created by Argentine farmer Pedro Martin Ureta in remembrance of his wife Graciela Yraizoz, who died in 1977 at the young age of 25. Mr. Ureta planted his tribute a few years afterward, bringing to life an idea she had suggested one day after an airplane ride over the countryside had given her the inspiration. Over 7000 trees make up the guitar, with cypress trees forming the outline and blue eucalyptus trees providing the strings. A bad experience soured Mr. Ureta on flying and he has never seen his creation from above, except in photos.
